I am a professionally trained teacher with over ten years experience. One of the ways I approach woodwork teaching is from a practical standpoint. I want students to be able to confidently and safely use hand and power tools in their everyday life. I give students a practical introduction to tools, woodworking and furniture making.
As a woodworking teacher my focus is on creating a supportive learning environment. There are no dumb questions and I welcome people who are complete beginners. With each class I work in as many tool skills as possible and I ensure everyone leaves with a finished item.
I can arrange classes at a particular site or at a local workshop. I cater for any group and have created tailored workshops for:
I am open to brain storming ideas for a concept or project you might have.
Prior to getting into trades I worked as a high school teacher in QLD and I bring this broad skill set into my work as a tradesperson and woodworking teacher. I have also worked as a social worker specialising in domestic, family and sexual violence and currently am a contracted maintenance worker for the YWCA.
I am passionate about timber and sustainability and I use recycled timber and materials where possible. My preference is to repair not replace.
I enjoy working in partnership with people to help them solve problems in their home and garden. I will workshop creative solutions with you and love meeting face to face over a cup of tea to guide you through the process.
I offer transparency and competitive pricing. I pride myself on good communication, organisation and professionalism, and I clean up all the mess I make.
I have a police check, working with children check, Public Liability Insurance and an up-to-date Level 2 first aid certificate.
I am your local, friendly handy person.
Working with Anj Hansen both on house carpentry and an outdoor project was one of the most gratifying construction experiences we have had. From the first steps, Anj did everything right. She listened carefully to what we wanted, researched and shared with us her modifications, all of which made the finished products better then we could have imagined. She tracked down the best timbers for the jobs and best of all, Anj finished both jobs ahead of schedule, never missed a promised work date, was meticulous in her final steps, and charged a most reasonable price for her outstanding work. No stress, solid professionalism, commitment to quality work--we strongly recommend Anj Hansen. Though not so sure we want to share her.
Anj has run Hammertime workshops for me for four years. She has consistently gone over and beyond what is expected from her, received awesome feedback from participants via evaluation forms and informal feedback, and ensured everyone felt safe, learnt heaps and had a blast! I would do one of her workshops in a flash, and hire her again in a second.
I had an absolute blast learning to woodwork with Anj - it was such a practical, hands-on and fun day and Anj’s teaching was clear and spot on. I’d highly recommend Hammertime!
The hammer time course was just excellent. It’s a warm, welcoming and inclusive environment which is perfect for beginners and those with some woodworking skills alike. Anj in particular, is a great teacher, she is knowledgeable, patient and friendly. Her explanations are clear and she provides each student with helpful personalised guidance throughout the course. I would definitely recommend her classes to anyone with an interest in woodwork.
Anj is exceptional, attentive and she always takes pride in her work. She has taken over our gardening services for all our female and male refugees in Melbourne and outer suburbs and the feedback from our tenants has been extremely positive to her manner and attention to detail. Anj is quick to jobs and will always let me know if there’s anything that needs attention, with great pricing and forecasted costs. The women in our housing also feel comfortable having a female trade in their company. Thank you for your ongoing work with us and I would highly recommend Anj for any gardening services.
